Monthly Newsletter - Charlie Smith, President

Greetings

I hope things are going well for you amid all of the apparent crisis going on right now.

I had my own crisis this morning as I was leaving the house. My wife caught me at the door and said, “My God! Look at that hair growing out of your ears!” I got marched right back upstairs and she got after me with a pair of electric snippers. It sounded like I was standing next to a wood chipper. After that she attacked me with a dust buster. I have come to the conclusion that I am married to a monster. My ears are still ringing.

As you may have noticed, I have changed the format of the monthly newsletter. The full newsletter is posted on our website.
Click on this link and it will take you right to it. Brian Selig has been doing a lot of work on our website and it really looks better and is easier to use. His efforts in search engine optimization have resulted in our more than quadrupling the number of site visits we get over the past 5 months.

Cup is half full...

On a good note, we should be done with our 2nd round of uplift testing on our factory coping this week.  Also, our new 238T roof panel and Wave horizontal wall panel should be ready for production next month.

Dick Huber and the boys at Abel’s Construction Services did one hell of a job constructing the dome for a job on the southwest side of Houston. This 7’ 6” radius dome was made in sections in their shop, assembled at the job site and hoisted onto the roof in 1 piece. Really nice work!

and more progress....

We are making progress here on a number of fronts. One is doing longer tapered standing seam panels. Since we have a 32’ sheet metal brake, our tapered panel length has been limited to what we could make on our brake. As usual, that is not quite long enough for some jobs.  So, we built a 60’ slitter table that we will be able to use to cut tapered 200, 238T and SL HI panels on. We can then roll form the other side of the panel.

Here it is on the maiden voyage taper slitting 40’ panels for Byrne Metals on a job here in Houston. These panels taper roughly 2” from one end to the other. The width limitations on tapered panels longer than 32’ are roughly 18” on the wide end and 7” on the narrow end.

Korean Friend

Lets see what our Korean friend is up to this month. An interesting application of zinc wall panels.

Last but not least... a great video.

Lastly, somebody sent this video to me of some absolutely insane downhill bicycle riding. I remember building ramps when I was a kid and convincing a couple of friends I could jump over them with my Schwin Sting Ray if they laid down. Fortunately no one went to the hospital.
Check his out.
